Seriously. How? I’ve tried to sell a number of things and punching myself in the balls would be easier and more productive.

Item #1: a phone, most serious offer that would’ve followed through was $20 on a $100 listing. Sold it on eBay for $80. No pay. It’s in a drawer now.

Item #2: a door and windows. For free! Took 7 “buyers” before one came through.

Item #3: a Honda bicycle. Sold it for $20, sent an email to another buyer saying it’s gone. He says “okay, thanks”. Next day, texts that he’s on the way to meet me at a store. Text him that it’s gone. 45 minutes later, he calls that he’s there waiting for me. It’s fing gone man!

My Corvair, two serious buyers, one offers $250 below asking without even coming to see it. Won’t budge. Second actually looks and decided not to. Six others? “ is it still available? “ “yes, do you have any questions about it?” Then no contact at all.

Seriously, how the hell do people successfully find buyers on craigslist?

Had a top-of-line Sony 37” LCD TV. We were given a 42” Pioneer plasma (fantastic picture). TV prices are lower now, so the Sony was worth next-to-nothing. Put it in at $200, a week later a guy gave me $100, and I was lucky to get it. We also had a 26” of the same model. We wound up giving it away - no one wanted it.

I just don’t. I tried to sell some electronics on there and just gave up as I didn’t get any responses at all.

I usually sell my stuff on the Ars Agora Forums or eBay.

Should have said - it’s all price. We’re moving as soon as we can find an apartment to buy, and I’ll be offering a Jennifer convertible sofabed (6 years old, $1600 new) for a couple hundred bucks. Or a hundred if that doesn’t work. Or perhaps free to a good home.

I like to look at selling on EBay and/or CL like a Man vs. Moron Battle.

Each successful sale is a tiny victory for mankind.

It’s become a cesspool of idiots. They all dream of making a living buying things at 20% of asking price, and reselling. Then there’s the handful of people that agree to buy something, but lack the motivation to actually make the drive to come get it.

I’ve posted dozens of things, from cars to free networking gear. Every time first person shows up and gives me cash, even when the stuff was free (once beer). You must have a bad craigslist, or I have a good one.

I’m okay with dumb people as long as they give me money and go away. But I can’t find that type.

I have had exactly one good interaction with a seller on CL, a guy who brought a stack of cash to buy a motorcycle and didn’t waste my time and didn’t try to lowball. I gave him a couple hundred dollar discount for it (and because it was his first bike), too.

I’ve had numerous good interactions with buyers, mostly because I’m not a fuckwit and I don’t waste anyone’s time. If I’m contacting you about your CL ad, it’s because I’m interested in buying and I have money. The only thing left to do is agree on a price at that point. Sellers like that and I usually get a good deal for not screwing them around.

But yeah, selling on CL is awful. It’s too bad it’s the only real way to sell relatively low-value, bulky/heavy items. I’ll eBay things I can ship easily despite the steepish fees. Punching myself in the crotch would be easier, more productive, and less painful than dealing with CL morons for something that’s worth less than at least a grand or so.

I gave away a lawn mower with a blown motor a few months ago.

My Craigslist ad was something like this.

“Free mower, blown engine....it’s by the curb, don’t ring my doorbell with stupid fucking questions....it’s fucking free.

Ad will be taken down as soon as someone picks it up.

It was gone in 20 minutes.
